Was this counselor out of line?

thats just him. he was definetely acting too harsh for the situation in your case, but that's probably how he treats everyone. i'm sure he didn't mean to hurt you, he's probably just VERY realistic. but dont worry you werent too oversensitive, it's a common human value we all have. no one wants to be the outsider looking in :)
